Exploring The 3rd Eye With Erica Jago

AYS advisory member Erica Jago will be leading Indigo, a yoga retreat this September, centered around imagination through the lens of the third eye. Inspired by her vision, we connected with Erica to tell us more...

What is the 3rd eye?

The Anja Chakra, otherwise known as the third eye or sixth chakra, is located in the geometric center of the brain and is the seat of our intuition. Elements of study into this singular space of consciousness unlock the mysteries of clairvoyance, vision, imagination, light and color.

How does it relate to our daily life?

When we are dreaming, using our imagination, or expressing ourselves artistically, we are connecting with / sourcing from our third eye. Comparing our dreams to our current reality - what is happening in the here and now - enables us to see with new eyes and gain perspective of our life. We are always stronger than we think and more talented than we believe. Connecting with the 3rd eye and viewing our reality from the lens of deeper consciousness aids us in articulating our dream world, transforming our reality in alignment with what we wish to achieve.

How can we explore our connection with the 3rd eye?

Explore the 3rd eye

Sit in meditation and witness your imagination. It happens in the mind’s eye first before the body can conduct the dream.

Clear the 3rd eye

Focus on your positive light, strengthening your ability to transition from dark more readily with the only vibration faster than sound.

Heal the 3rd eye

From the foods you eat to the fabrics you wear, choosing colors that follow the change in your emotions (such as rich, vivid, hot, cool) is an ancient art of healing.

Express the 3rd eye

Manifest the innate skills of drawing, painting, sculpting, decorating, photography, writing, playing music or any medium that allows you to express yourself creatively.

Meditation for the 3rd eye

Enhance your clairvoyance by imagining a face before you answer your phone. The more you do it, the more vivid your psychic abilities become.

So Erica, do tell...

How does yoga play a role in your life?

Yoga trains my mind to tune it's attention inwards and thus step into my creative flow as an artist.

What do you love to do? What ignites you?

I love the combination of yoga and design. You can always find me on the mat, sketching out sequences using Asanaglyphs or conceptualizing the visual language for the next week long retreat and cultural immersion for my students.

What is Indigo Retreat? Why did you create it?

Indigos are extremely creative and express this innate skill in many, and often times OUTRAGEOUS forms. When I went after my dream to design and self publish my book, Art of Attention, it took courage and a true connection to what was asking to be expressed, even though I knew it was a huge risk. I hold retreats, particularly the INDIGO retreat, for artists who want to strategize very consciously with their creativity. Our focus is solely on the mental body, which is often the biggest obstacle when it comes to making art.

Personal "Why" - Why do you do what you do?

I do what I do because I’m a creative seeking beauty; beauty that makes you pause and appreciate your grand life.

Words of wisdom - If you had one message to share, what would that message be?

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do, than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover”
- Mark Twain
